Four Crane Schools Receive “A” Grade
Yuma, AZ – The Crane Elementary School District is celebrating the achievement of its schools. The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) has released the annual public school letter grades, as required by Arizona Revised Statutes § 15-241 to “develop an annual achievement profile for every public school in the state based on an A through F scale (subject to final adoption by the State Board of Education).” The school letter grade reflects factors such as student academic achievement, student growth, and proficiency in English Language Arts, Math, and Science. Crane Schools is proud to share that four of its district schools have received an “A” Grade, given to schools that have attained “distinguished performance” on the statewide assessment, significant student growth for the year, and overall performance that is higher than the state average. Gowan Science Academy, H.L. Suverkrup Elementary School, Pueblo Elementary School, and Mesquite Elementary School have all received an “A” Grade. The school principals each reflected on the significance of the grade for their respective schools.
Principal Jamie Haines at Gowan Science Academy: “Earning an 'A' grade is the result of a strategic journey fueled by passion and diligence. Our teachers implement innovative teaching strategies, our students embrace a culture of continuous learning, and our administration fosters an environment that encourages both personal and academic growth. It is the meticulous blend of inspiration, hard work and a shared vision that propels us to consistently achieve academic success.”
Principal Trish Valentin at H.L. Suverkrup Elementary: “Our school’s commitment to academic excellence is a shining example of what can be achieved through hard work, dedication, and a passion for learning.”
Principal Karen Burns at Mesquite Elementary: “Mesquite is honored and proud to have earned an ‘A’ rating for the 2023-24 school year. The real credit goes to our persevering students, extremely dedicated teachers and staff, and a supportive school community. Receiving the ‘A’ helps with validating and reinforcing that we are on the right track to achieving academic excellence.”
Principal Bobbie Henry at Pueblo Elementary: “It took years of staying focused on building an amazing culture at our school where people want to work and learn. We have had to stay true to doing what is best for students even if it means more work for staff. Earning an ‘A’ as our school's letter grade means that my ENTIRE staff's focus on student growth through meeting the needs of individual students is working!” This is the first “A” Grade for Pueblo.
Superintendent Laurie Doering commends the school staff at each site, students, and families for working in unison to promote student success. “These partnerships pave the way for brighter futures through extraordinary academic growth. I can attest that these staff members have an unwavering commitment to student academic success.”
The Crane District is also pleased to announce that the following Crane schools have received a “B” Grade: Centennial Middle School, Crane Middle School, Gary A. Knox Elementary School, Ronald Reagan Elementary School. We’re so incredibly proud of the effort and care that our entire school community has put into student growth and achievement.
