HLS Bulldog Wins Essay Contest

The best part about my community is definitely the festivals, the special events such as the fair, the Date festival, the Lettuce Festival, the Corn Festival and seeing all the families together. Yuma is well known for its lettuce production during the winter. Yuma is the southwestern part of the state, and it sits on the border between Arizona and Mexico. Yuma is home to our winter visitors that come from Canada and many parts of the United States.

Yuma is also known for its family centered events, festivals, concerts, Midnight at the Oasis, air shows, and car shows. Yuma participates in light parades and the Yuma water tower lighting show. They’ve got rib cook-offs, bbqs, taco festivals, and more. It’s a small town that is home to about 100,000 people. Yuma is a small city that serves as a midpoint between major cities.

Yuma has been rated the second hottest place on earth. Many people have their children participate in swimming classes, sports, and extracurricular activities in order to escape the heat. Yuma is also home to agricultural migrant workers and families that make Yuma their home.

Yuma is known as America’s winter capital. Yuma produces over 90% of the lettuce as well as citrus for the United States every winter. Yuma is home to two military bases. Yuma also has historic downtown shops, the Colorado River runs right through the city, sharing it with Mexico. The Colorado River allows for swimming, fishing, tubing and boating. The Sonoran Desert allows beautiful sunsets, sunrises, and backyard landscapes. Telegraph Pass allows for hiking year-round.

In conclusion, Yuma is best known for winter production of citrus, vegetables and lettuce. Yuma is known for its affordable house market. Yuma is not far from the dunes, other cities, and desert excitement. Yuma is my home, it’s where my family and I were born. This city has been home to everyone I know. Traveling is fun, big cities are neat, but when it comes to being home, Yuma can’t be beat.
